WARBIRDS OVER THE ROCKIES 2011
Join us in Fort Collins, Colorado, for the 8th year of the largest Warbird Event west of the Mississippi. Hosted by the Love-Air R/C Club and held September 23-25, 2011, this unique event drew 150 pilots with over 400 different airplanes. Our cameras were on the flight line over the weekend capturing all the action for your viewing pleasure, including Jimmy Cowman's big B-17G, John Boord's very nice Model 121 Lockheed Constellation, Warren Cross' unique De Havilland DH-4 Air Ambulance, Brian O'Meara's incredible A-10 Warthog, Vic Catalasan's Lavochkin LA-7 and Ryan Haldenwanger's new ME-262. This is only a small sampling of what you'll see! We also have some incredible aerial footage for you! Noontime entertainment included a warbird show featuring Giant World War I and World War II aircraft as well as simulated Bomb Explosions performed by a professional pyrotechnics company. Records were shattered with over 950 registered pilots in attendance! Featured aircraft include Carl Bachhuber's giant C-119 Flying Box Car, Boli Muente's beautiful T-2A Tucano, Ralph Braun's huge C-47, Jerry McCallum's scratch-built 100 pound Piper L-4, Bob Wesley's Bowers Fly Baby and Bob Sawyer's 55% Sensi, just to name a few. For noontime entertainment we were treated to Mac Hodges B-29 routine as well as the articulated jet antics of Ralf Losemann and Enrico Thaeter. Mark Davidson brought out the venerable Super Bee, renamed the Kir-bee in memory of Kirby McKinney and to bring noontime to a close, dozens of warbirds tore up the skies over Triple Tree.
